after more than three years of silence as a producer, efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the -continuous dj mix- format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. this cd-mix, named na•f, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers (e.g. margaret dygas, steve bicknell, jeroen search, pom pom, marco shuttle or gunnar haslam) along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself (either as soloist or collaborator). the release condenses his decade-long dj-ing journey and evolution as a producer into a single potent elixir of contemporary techno. owing to his additional projects, such as collaborating with pan artist konrad sprenger on a modular organ system to be installed in museums, or scoring for a neue musik ensemble, the berlin-based efdemin is known as hiker between the worlds . his regular stints at berghain or panoramabar, his partnership with established labels (e.g. ostgut ton, dial, sushitech) and the leadership of his own na•f imprint all demonstrate that since more than a decade.

ambient power duo anjous sophomore statement continues in the vein of their 2014 debut, unfurling a full hour of mesmeric synthetic drift and veiled melodic undertow. comprised of mark nelson (of pioneering post-rock experimentalists labradford and pan american) and robert donne (of labradford, aix em klemm, cristal), the group work largely in long-form suites of sound, alternately spacious and dense. the new lps six pieces embrace flux and ambiguity: drones swell and shudder, hushed currents of noise glitch and dissolve, atmospheres congeal and liquify. as with the participants prior projects, anjou evoke a shadowed, mysterious mood, variously melancholy and transcendent. the album is an accumulation of craftsmanship and experience, blurred forms traced in light and fog.

les graciŽs is a collaboration in the truest sense between paris-based sound artist ga‘l segalen and deepblak co-founder afrikan sciences. segalenÕs experiments in electroacoustic sound met the wider world this year via a debut lp for erratum, an arresting work that showcases her ability to merge hypnotic murk ala angus maclise with the hard concrŽte of parmegiani & reibel. segalenÕs ihearu imprint / organisation is a platform for her various doings, including psychogeographical audio works and multi-media collaborations, as well as servicing as a reference point for other contemporary female artists working across various mediums. eric douglas porter aka african sciences has been deconstructing and re-building forms of contemporary black music since the mid-2000Õs, through releases on deepblak (the label he co-runs with aybee) and pan. his musical universe is one of warping cadences and celestial melody, referencing the bold work of percussionists like milford graves & art jenkins, the dissonant chords of motor city techno and stripped back essence of early chicago house matched with broken hard bop sentiments: all tied together with an aesthetic that sits somewhere between sun raÕs omniverse, jean giraud mÏbius and dogon cosmology. together as le graciŽs, segalen and porter make a wholly unclassifiable strain of music that, while containing recognisable elements of each individual s work, also creates a third entity in the process, which can be heard to stunning effect on their forthcoming debut lp Ôlow dosesÕ for firecracker recordings.

following contributions by dj deep and dj hell, tresor records are proud to present the third instalment in their kern mix-series, this time headed by berlin based producer objekt, his first release following his 2014 debut album flatland for pan. in keeping with the series mission of showcasing a more personal approach to mixing hertz describes his process as such, kern vol. 3 is made up of tracks that i know i will play and love for years to come. some of these records have been in my bag for years others are almost as new to me as they are to you. a handful are by lesser known artists whom i admire and who i think deserve wider recognition. planned, recorded, embellished, reworked, tweaked and chiselled away at over a period of 6 months, the mix was gradually carved out in a way that makes use of new and old techniques alike, presenting itself primarily as a dj mix but settling in a sweet spot between live recording and studio trickery. the tracklist spans styles, decades and bpms in an attempt to craft a mix thats unpredictable and compelling in equal measure Ð one that draws from the more adventurous corners of my club sets, but above all, one thats a pleasure to listen to.
